Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has strongly criticised the ‘One Nation One Election’ proposal, calling it a plan to show the central government’s dominance over the entire country.
Reddy was speaking at a meeting in memory of the late CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury, who passed away recently. He arrived shortly after BRS working president K T Rama Rao left the event. Reddy mentioned that Yechury’s death comes at a critical time when the BJP is trying to impose its control over the nation. He praised Yechury’s efforts in bringing together alliances, particularly his role in uniting the Congress with other parties to form the United Front. This helped in the success of the UPA (United Progressive Alliance). Yechury also supported important laws like the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
Revanth Reddy said Yechury’s passing is a huge loss for the country, especially during these challenging times. He also emphasized that India is a union of states, and this union is being weakened by the BJP, which is making changes to the Constitution. He stressed that the ‘One Nation One Election’ proposal needs to be strongly opposed, as it goes against the spirit of this union. Yechury’s death, in his view, is not just a loss for the CPM but for everyone who is fighting to protect the unity of Indian states.
The Chief Minister also spoke about recent statements made by Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu regarding Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Reddy expressed concern that such remarks did not come from ordinary party members but from a Minister in Prime Minister Modi’s cabinet. He questioned why Prime Minister Modi has remained silent on this matter, suggesting that this silence reflects the fascist views of the ruling party at the Centre.
