Hyderabad: The Indian government recently announced that Telangana’s debt over the past decade reached Rs 3.5 lakh crore. However, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy disputes this, stating that the previous administration left debts and arrears totaling Rs 8,21,652 crore. This includes Rs 6,71,757 crore in loans, Rs 40,154 crore owed for employee payments and schemes, and Rs 1,09,740 crore related to SC, ST sub plans, and other departments.

So far, the state has repaid Rs 2,20,676 crore, which covers Rs 1,32,498 crore of the principal and Rs 88,178 crore in interest. During an Independence Day event at Golconda Fort, Reddy highlighted his government’s efforts to advance the state despite financial challenges. He urged the central government to approve bills for Backward Classes quotas in local bodies, education, and jobs, which have been passed by the state assembly.

Reddy criticized the previous government’s handling of land encroachments in Hyderabad. He praised the Hyderabad Disaster Management and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) for protecting 13 parks, 20 lakes, and valuable government lands worth Rs 30,000 crore. He accused opposition parties of using HYDRAA for political purposes and stressed the importance of preventing floods, like those in Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Chennai.

The Telangana Rising 2047 document outlines a plan to address Hyderabad’s flooding through the Musi Rejuvenation Project. It envisions India’s Future City as a gateway to the modern world, featuring projects like the Gandhi Sarovar at Bapu Ghat, new highways, dry ports, expanded metro rail, and industrial corridors. The aim is to transform Telangana into a one trillion US dollar economy by 2035 and a three trillion US dollar economy by 2047.
