Hyderabad is experiencing severe heavy rains, causing widespread flooding in low-lying neighborhoods. Water is pooling on roads, and sewage is overflowing onto streets, leading to major traffic jams across the city.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy visited the flood-hit areas of Hyderabad, including Balkampet, with senior officials. On his Sunday visit, he spoke with residents in slum areas to understand their problems. He asked about drinking water quality and if it was contaminated by sewage. Earlier, he also inspected conditions in Gangubai Basti and Buddha Nagar near Maitreevanam in Ameerpet. CM Reddy urged officials to quickly address community issues and implement relief measures due to the persistent rain.
He assessed the local drainage systems and stressed the urgency of taking immediate steps to reduce flooding.
At the same time, Minister Ponnam Prabhakar held a meeting with senior officials at the Secretariat to discuss the rain situation in Hyderabad. He emphasized the need for coordinated efforts across departments to manage low-lying areas. He instructed the Managing Director of Hyderabad Water Works to monitor waterlogged areas closely. Traffic officials were advised to work in shifts at key intersections to avoid disruptions. Minister Prabhakar also called on Health Department officials to prevent seasonal diseases stemming from the flooding.
