Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is set to present a PowerPoint slideshow to all Congress MPs in Delhi about the caste census and BC reservations on July 24. During his three-day trip starting Tuesday, he plans to ask Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a parliamentary discussion on giving 42% reservations to BCs.

To gather more support for the BC reservation ahead of the ‘Chalo Delhi’ event on July 25, he will meet with senior party members and MPs from the INDI bloc. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikarmarka will join him in the national capital. Together, they will meet Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge to discuss the recent caste census report submitted by an expert committee.

Mallu Ravi, the convener for Telangana Congress MPs, announced in Delhi that the Chief Minister and Deputy CM will discuss the caste census and the 42% BC reservation with Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, seeking their feedback. In the evening, CM Revanth will conduct a presentation for all Congress MPs at Indira Bhavan on the same topics, aiming for a parliamentary discussion.

Back in March 2025, the Telangana Assembly passed two significant bills: the Telangana Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes, and Scheduled Tribes (reservation of seats in educational institutions and appointments in state services) Bill 2025, and the Telangana Backward Classes (Reservation of seats in Rural and Urban Local Bodies) Bill 2025.

These bills were forwarded to the Center for constitutional amendments, with Governor Jishnu Dev Varma sending them to President Droupadi Murmu for approval.

Recently, the Telangana cabinet approved an ordinance to implement 42% reservations in upcoming local body elections. The state government justified this move by highlighting a recent caste census that showed BCs make up 56% of Telangana’s population. The ordinance aims to amend the Telangana Panchayat Raj Act, 2018, which currently limits reservations to 50%.
