Hyderabad – People living near the proposed elevated corridor project in Secunderabad Cantonment and the Rajiv Rahadari Road expansion are frustrated. For over a year, there has been no clear information from the Telangana State government about land acquisition and compensation.
Residents from areas like Trimulgherry, Lothkunta, Alwal, and Thumkunta are especially upset. Many have already left their homes, but they still don’t know how or when they’ll be compensated. Over 1,000 families and businesses have been affected.
The government plans to widen the road to 200 feet for the new elevated corridor. However, locals are asking officials to limit the expansion to 100 feet. They say this would reduce the number of people losing their land.
Last week, during the final Grama Sabha meeting in Alwal, residents protested. They submitted a petition, asking the government to protect their rights. They made it clear they are not against development but want the project to be more fair and transparent.
Protesters are demanding compensation in the form of land with equal value, not just money. Many fear losing their homes and businesses without proper support.
Telukunta Satish Gupta, Chairman of the Rajiv Rahadari Property Owner’s Joint Action Committee, said they’ve been kept in the dark. “We don’t even know how much land will be taken. The government must give us land of equal value in return,” he said.
Suresh, a resident of Secunderabad Cantonment, added, “We’re losing sleep over this. We’ve submitted so many requests, but no one listens. Our future is uncertain.”
The residents are now urging the government to communicate clearly, offer fair compensation, and reduce the size of the expansion to protect people’s lives and livelihoods.
