Hyderabad – Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy reaffirmed the Congress government's strong support for secularism and the rights of minority communities during a send-off event for Haj pilgrims on Tuesday night at Haj House.
Speaking at the gathering, Uttam Kumar Reddy emphasized that a nation cannot grow unless it ensures equal opportunities for all, especially for religious minorities. He said that true development depends on economic inclusion, access to education, and social equality for every group.
He raised concern about the rise of communal tensions across India, warning that promoting such divisions harms the country’s unity and weakens the values of the Constitution. “Short-term political gains should not come at the cost of national harmony,” he said.
Highlighting the inclusive steps taken by the Congress government in Telangana, Reddy said they had introduced several initiatives aimed at uplifting minorities. He announced that a record-breaking ₹3,591 crore had been set aside in the current state budget for minority welfare. Out of this, ₹840 crore is dedicated to the ‘Rajiv Yuva Vikasam’ scheme, which focuses on skill development and employment support for unemployed youth from minority communities.
He also spoke about the improved situation in the state since Congress came to power. “Minorities now feel safer and more respected. Our goal is to build a society where no one has to live in fear because of their religion or identity,” he said.
As the first group of pilgrims prepared to leave for Mecca, the Minister urged them to pray for the peace, prosperity, and unity of the nation, especially for Telangana. “You carry with you the prayers of millions. Ask for a better future for every Indian—one of harmony, justice, and progress,” he told them.
The event saw the presence of key community leaders, including Telangana Haj Committee Chairman Khusro Pasha Biyabani and Wakf Board Chairman Syed Azmatullah Hussaini. They joined in offering blessings and best wishes to the pilgrims on their spiritual journey.
