The government in Karimnagar is focused on improving state-run schools by enhancing infrastructure and basic facilities. However, there is a lack of monitoring at the mandal level, as regular officials in the Education department have not been appointed. As a result, school headmasters are taking on the responsibilities of MEOs, instead of focusing on their own schools.
Each headmaster is in charge of overseeing two to six mandals, a practice that has been ongoing for over a decade. This additional responsibility leaves them unable to properly manage their own schools. They are expected to monitor multiple schools each month, but their time is consumed by official meetings, reviews, and other administrative tasks.
The increased workload and lack of supervision have led to declining educational standards in government schools, particularly at the primary level. Student admissions are decreasing annually as a result. To address this issue, education authorities have appointed nodal officers to assist in reducing the burden on in-charge MEOs. Senior headmasters in each mandal have also been assigned specific responsibilities to support MEO functions.
Despite these efforts, teachers’ association leaders believe that significant changes will not occur unless the government takes further action. They emphasize the importance of appointing an adequate number of teachers and officials at all levels of the Education department to improve the quality of education in the state. The leaders also stress the need for better facilities and infrastructure in schools to attract more students and enhance educational standards.
