Hyderabad: Telangana Panchayat Raj Minister Dhanasri Anasuya, also known as Seethakka, said on Monday that Telangana is serving as a role model for helping underprivileged people.
She explained that the government is using all its resources to promote social justice. Seethakka was speaking at a national meeting on social justice and empowerment held in Dehradun, which was led by Union Minister Veerendra Kumar.
During the event, she spoke about the ‘Praja Palana’ program, which focuses on the welfare of the elderly, disabled, and transgender communities in Telangana. She also asked the Central government to work together with the State to improve the lives of these groups.
Seethakka highlighted Telangana’s efforts to create equal opportunities for all in society, the economy, and politics. She mentioned two major bills that were recently passed in the State Assembly. One of them was the SC classification bill, which had been pending for 30 years. The other bill increased reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) in education, jobs, and politics to 42 percent, based on population.
She said these bills are major steps forward in creating a fairer society. She also noted that Telangana is the only state in India providing high-quality rice to poor families through the Public Distribution System.
To help reduce the financial burden on poor families, Telangana is also offering gas cylinders at Rs 500, free electricity up to 200 units, and free bus travel for women.
Seethakka added that these programs are part of a bigger effort to help the poor live with dignity. She emphasized that the State’s goal is not charity, but ensuring fairness and equality for all.
