The meteorological department has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Telangana, alerting residents to prepare for a two-phase weather system expected to bring intense rainfall, hailstorms, and strong winds between March 15 and March 20, 2026. The warning emphasizes significant weather impacts across multiple districts with varying intensity levels during the six-day period.

The first phase of the weather system is scheduled between March 15-17, 2026, during which districts marked in the red zone are expected to receive 40-50mm of rainfall. This phase will feature intense lightning strikes, hailstorms, and strong winds reaching speeds of 40-60 kmph, primarily occurring during afternoon and night hours. The capital city Hyderabad is forecast to experience one or two spells of intense thunderstorms during March 16-17, accompanied by hail and gusty winds.

The second and more severe phase is predicted to occur between March 18-20, 2026, identified as the peak impact period. These three days are expected to bring the main thunderstorm activity with widespread rainfall across red-marked districts, where precipitation could reach 60-80mm. This phase will also feature thunderstorms, hailstorms, and gusty winds with speeds ranging from 50-60 kmph.

Agricultural sectors across affected districts face significant risks from the anticipated weather conditions. Crop-damaging rains, strong winds, and hailstorms pose serious threats to standing crops and agricultural infrastructure. Farmers in red-marked districts have been advised to take preventive measures to minimize potential losses during both phases of the weather system.
