Kothagudem/Hyderabad – The Singareni Collieries Company has launched a new water conservation project called ‘Neeti Bindu Jala Sindhu’ to improve groundwater levels in its mining regions. The initiative, which began earlier this month, is moving ahead quickly under the leadership of Company Chairman N. Balaram.
As part of the plan, the company is building 62 mini ponds in 12 different locations across the Singareni area. In addition, 40 existing ponds are being cleared of silt to boost their water-holding capacity. Balaram has set a deadline of May 15 to complete all the work.
During a review meeting at Singareni Bhavan in Hyderabad on Monday, Balaram instructed general managers and officials from the civil and environmental departments to speed up the progress. So far, over 20% of the work is complete, but he emphasized the need to finish the rest before the monsoon rains arrive.
He stressed the importance of finalizing all civil engineering works so the new ponds can collect and store plenty of rainwater. He also directed teams to build protective fences around each pond to keep them safe and secure.
Here’s how the mini ponds are being distributed:
– 10 ponds in Mandamarri
– 8 ponds each in Kothagudem and Bhupalapally
– 5 ponds each in Ramagundam-1, Ramagundam-2, Illandu, Manuguru, Srirampur, Bellampalli, and Singareni Thermal Power Stations
– 4 ponds in Ramagundam-3
This large-scale project aims to make better use of rainwater, help recharge groundwater tables, and support the local environment and communities in coal belt regions.
