Asifabad, Telangana – Villagers from Nayakupuguda in Govena Gram Panchayat, located in Tiryani mandal, held a silent protest on Monday outside the District Forest Department office. With their mouths symbolically covered, they demanded electricity for their village.

The protest was their way of showing frustration. Even after 70 years of India’s independence, Nayakupuguda still lives in darkness. The village remains without a power supply because of delays in getting permission from the Forest Department to install electricity poles.

Residents shared that they have been trying for years to get approval to lay electric lines through forest areas. However, they say officials have not responded to their repeated appeals.

The villagers urged the Forest Department to show compassion and grant the required permission. They said electricity is not a luxury but a basic need. Without it, their children’s education and daily life continue to suffer.

This unique protest highlights a long-standing issue in rural India — the struggle for basic infrastructure in remote areas. Villagers now hope that authorities will finally take action and bring light to Nayakupuguda.
