Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader S Niranjan Reddy has accused the Congress government of stalling the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Scheme. Speaking at a press conference held at Telangana Bhavan on Friday, he claimed that the government is intentionally delaying the project instead of pushing for its early completion.
Reddy criticized the recent visit by Minister Jupally Krishna Rao to the project site. While the visit appeared to be a review, Reddy said it was actually a tactic to delay progress further. He pointed out that more than 90% of the project is already completed. Yet, the minister gave a two-year timeline without assuring that the remaining work would be finished quickly.
Taking aim at Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Niranjan Reddy questioned the CM’s commitment to his native region. “He calls himself the son of Palamuru, but nothing has moved forward on the ground,” Reddy stated. “Not even a single truckload of soil has been removed in the last 1.5 years.”
Reddy highlighted that during the BRS government’s tenure, major components of the project—including four pump houses, reservoirs, substations, tunnels, and surge pools—were already completed. Only a small portion, around 8 kilometers of canal work in Package 3, remains unfinished.
He further questioned whether political pressure from Andhra Pradesh is behind the delay, noting that the contractor for the unfinished package is a TDP leader, and his son is an MLA there.
According to Reddy, the BRS government had secured 27,000 acres of land for the project, with only 100 acres pending. Once finished, the scheme is expected to supply irrigation water to 12.3 lakh acres in Nalgonda, Palamuru, and Ranga Reddy districts.
He urged the current government to act quickly and ensure Telangana receives its fair share of Krishna river water, while demanding the immediate completion of the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy project.
