Hyderabad: The Special Investigations Team (SIT) is investigating a phone-tapping case. They have called suspended DSP G Praneeth Rao for questioning on Friday.
Praneeth Rao is accused of destroying hard disks with vital information. He claims former Special Investigation Bureau Chief T Prabhakar Rao directed his actions. The SIT has detained him several times before.
The SIT’s latest summons for Praneeth is based on information from the former SIB chief during an interrogation.
Praneeth Rao, who rose from inspector to deputy superintendent of police (DSP) while at SIB, allegedly played a major role in tapping the phones of A Revanth Reddy, his family, political figures, judges, actors, and journalists.
On election results night, Praneeth reportedly destroyed hard disks, eliminating crucial evidence. He removed these from an office within SIB and dumped them into the Musi river. Afterward, police launched an investigation, recovering several disks from the river.
Meanwhile, Prabhakar Rao is also being questioned by SIT officials. However, he denies any involvement, saying he never ordered phone interceptions. Yet, Praneeth Rao, along with P Radha Kishan Rao, N Bhuganja Rao, and M Tirupathanna, have confessed to acting on Prabhakar Rao’s orders.
SIT has issued notices for Prabhakar Rao to return for questioning tomorrow. There is a possibility that both Praneeth Rao and Prabhakar Rao will face interrogation together.
