Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is set to officially launch a major new government scheme called “Indira Soura Giri Vikasam” on Monday. The event will take place in Macharam village, located in Amrabad mandal of Nagarkurnool district.
This scheme aims to support farmers by helping them switch to solar-powered irrigation. The Telangana government has allocated a massive ₹12,600 crore for this project. Each eligible farmer will receive a ₹6 lakh subsidy—completely free—to install a solar pump set for their farmland.
According to Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, the goal is to bring solar irrigation to six lakh acres over the next five years. The main focus is on helping tribal farmers, especially those who own land under the Recognition of Forest Rights Act (RoFR), 2006.
About 2.1 lakh tribal farmers with RoFR titles will benefit from this program. “This move is part of the government’s plan to improve the income and lifestyle of tribal communities who were given land rights under the UPA’s historic 2006 Forest Rights Act,” said Bhatti.
During the launch event, CM Revanth Reddy will personally hand out solar pump sets to selected tribal farmers. He is also expected to speak at a public gathering after visiting the Seetaramanjaneya Swamy temple.
Later in the day, the Chief Minister will head to his hometown, Kondareddypalle, for a special prayer at the Anjaneya Swamy temple. He will then return to Hyderabad in the evening.
The Indira Soura Giri Vikasam scheme marks a major step toward sustainable agriculture in Telangana, while also empowering tribal communities with modern, environment-friendly farming tools.
