Staff Shortages Plague Education Department in RR District

In Rangareddy district, the education department is facing challenges due to staff shortages, especially in the roles of Mandal Education Officers (MEOs). The lack of enough MEOs is putting pressure on the current workforce, despite promises from leaders to improve education in government schools.

MEOs are responsible for supervising schools and teachers, but many are overseeing three or four mandals each. This heavy workload makes it difficult for them to effectively carry out their duties. With only nine MEOs in charge of 27 mandals in Rangareddy district, the situation is becoming more critical.

Each mandal has around 30 to 40 schools, 100 to 150 teachers, and thousands of students. Managing this vast network with limited resources is a huge task for MEOs. While cluster schools have been set up within each mandal to share some responsibilities, MEOs still have the main oversight duties. It becomes even more challenging when they have to oversee multiple mandals at once, leading to gaps in supervision.

Teachers and parents are urging government authorities to address the staffing shortages by appointing more MEOs for each mandal. They believe this will distribute responsibilities more evenly and improve governance. Kishtareddy, an in-charge MEO for Kondurgu mandal, has also expressed the difficulties of managing multiple mandals alone. The call for additional MEO appointments is getting stronger, with stakeholders pushing for quick government action to ease the burden on education department officials.
