Secunderabad: Stagnant drainage water on the roads and in the parks of Simhapuri Colony, Bachupally, is causing distress among residents. Many families, particularly children, are suffering from flus, malaria, dengue fever due to mosquito breeding fostered by poor drainage systems in the area.

Simhapuri Colony is situated in Bachupally, within the Medchal-Malkajgiri district of Telangana, and is home to more than 600 families.

Residents of Simhapuri Colony, Bachupally have repeatedly raised concerns regarding the deplorable condition of the roads. The lack of proper drainage outlets has led to water stagnating in potholes and on road surfaces, creating ideal breeding grounds for disease-carrying mosquitoes. This situation has significantly impacted the health and well-being of numerous families in the community.

Following this year’s monsoon season, the conditions have worsened as heavy rainfall has caused flooding and drainage overflows. Residents have reported that long commute times for short distances within Bachupally are a result of the deteriorating road conditions, further exacerbating their daily struggles.

The potholes in the area also pose a threat to life in the rainy season and can be potentially dangerous and even life threatening for both two wheelers and four wheelers commuting the area.

BRS Chairman KT Rama Rao visited the area in the middle of last year and instructed the Commissioner of Dundigal to clear the stagnant water and appoint a consultant to devise a comprehensive plan for a permanent sewage outlet to resolve the issue. However, there has been no follow-up action since then.

These severe issues with the roads have persisted over the past two years, despite residents’ repeated appeals to government authorities. Unfortunately, their concerns have largely gone unaddressed, leaving them to cope with ongoing neglect and health risks in their neighborhood.
