NagarKurnool: As the Dussehra holidays are coming soon, District Superintendent of Police (SP) Gaikwad Vaibhav Raghunath has advised residents to be cautious, especially if they plan to travel to their hometowns or far-off places. He highlighted the need to protect homes during the festival to avoid thefts.
SP Gaikwad shared several safety tips. He suggested that people avoid leaving valuables such as jewelry and cash at home. Instead, he recommended storing them in bank lockers. He also advised residents to securely lock their homes and keep lights on both inside and outside to discourage criminals.
Additionally, the SP encouraged people to inform their neighbors about their travel plans and ask them to watch over the house while they are away. For those who cannot use bank lockers, carrying valuables with them was recommended. He also mentioned that residents should ensure newspapers and milk packets do not pile up at the doorstep, as this could indicate an empty house.
Other suggestions included taking cupboard keys along, hiding locks behind door curtains, and leaving a light on in at least one room. SP Gaikwad also advised locking the outer gate from the inside and leaving footwear outside to make it appear as if someone is at home.
The SP emphasized the importance of staying in touch with neighbors, even after reaching one’s destination, and checking in regularly to get updates about the house. If any suspicious activity is noticed, residents should immediately call 100 or the control room at 8712657709.
Finally, SP Gaikwad recommended installing CCTV cameras to monitor homes remotely via mobile phones, giving residents peace of mind during the festive season.
