A trial run of the Malkapeta Reservoir in Malkapet village, Karimnagar district was successful. The reservoir has a capacity of 3 TMC and was constructed as part of package-9. Officials worked for two weeks to complete the trial run, which involved starting the motors in the pump house and lifting Godavari waters into the reservoir. The Engineer-in-Chief, lifting consultant, and representatives from various agencies supervised the work. The Executive Engineer responsible for coordination ensured everything ran smoothly. The construction of the reservoir will irrigate 60,000 new ayacut and stabilize 26,150 acres of ayacut. It will provide a permanent solution to irrigation problems faced by farmers in Vemulawada and Sircilla constituencies, and waste lands will become green. The Malkapeta Reservoir cost Rs 504 crore to build and will be inaugurated soon.
