Hyderabad – A sudden change in weather on Friday evening led to heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds in various parts of Hyderabad, resulting in widespread disruptions across the city. Over 60 trees were reported uprooted due to the storm, blocking roads and causing power outages in several areas.

The Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams of GHMC’s HYDRAA wing immediately responded to the emergency, deploying over 30 teams across the city to clear fallen trees and ensure traffic movement was not affected.

Major areas impacted include Saroornagar, Vijay Nagar Colony, Kukatpally, Darussalam, High Court, BN Reddy Nagar, Falaknuma, Sultan Bazaar, Kachiguda, Sindhi Colony, and Methodist Colony, where several large trees collapsed onto roads and near residences.

According to GHMC, most of the complaints about tree falls came in by 10 PM, and about 70% of them have already been resolved. In critical areas, DRF teams prioritized removal of trees to restore electricity supply and prevent traffic congestion.

Additionally, teams were dispatched to known water stagnation points to ensure that rainwater did not accumulate and create further disruption.

The Hyderabad Police and GHMC control rooms received numerous calls for assistance. In one incident, a large tree collapsed inside the Saroornagar police station compound, prompting immediate clearing efforts by officials.

Nampally, Malakpet, Old City areas, and southern parts of Hyderabad witnessed the heaviest downpour, with most tree fall complaints originating from these localities.

Thanks to the prompt response by the DRF teams, major roads were cleared overnight, ensuring minimal inconvenience to morning commuters.

The GHMC has urged citizens to stay alert and report any tree falls or waterlogging issues through official helplines, especially with further weather alerts predicted in the coming days.
