Hanamkonda: Minister Konda Surekha paid tribute to Mahatma Jyotirao Phule on Friday, calling him a great leader who fought for equality for all people. She spoke at an event held by the district BC Welfare department, where she honored Phule’s contributions to society.
During her speech, Surekha said that Phule was a visionary who stood up against the social problems of his time. He strongly supported women’s education, and his wife, Savitribai Phule, became the first woman teacher in India. She also mentioned that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was inspired by Phule’s work and followed in his footsteps.
Surekha praised the reforms made by the Phule couple, saying their efforts have earned them a special place in history. She added that the benefits society enjoys today are because of the hard work of such social reformers.
The Minister also spoke about the government’s efforts to support backward communities. She said a BC caste census has been launched to ensure fair representation based on population data. She encouraged everyone to work toward achieving the goals set by leaders like Phule.
