Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed officials to prepare comprehensive plans for constructing ring roads around all major district headquarters across Telangana. The initiative aims to prevent heavy vehicles from entering town centers and facilitate faster movement of goods transport vehicles. The directive came during a review meeting with the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department held at the Chief Minister’s residence in Jubilee Hills on Wednesday evening.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister suggested that existing roads near district headquarters should be interconnected to form ring roads wherever possible. He instructed officials to construct radial roads that would connect district centers to the proposed ring roads, creating an efficient network for traffic management. The CM also directed the team to study the feasibility of connecting these ring roads with national highways to improve interstate connectivity.
The Chief Minister further asked officials to examine the possibility of constructing a greenfield road from the Hyderabad-Vijayawada Expressway to Nagarjuna Sagar. He emphasized the need to expedite the completion of ongoing Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and Road Under Bridges (RUBs) and prepare proposals for new ones wherever required. The meeting was attended by Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, CM Principal Secretary Srinivasa Raju, R&B Special Chief Secretary Vikas Raj, and R&B ENC Mohan Naik, among other officials.
In a significant push toward environmental sustainability, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy stressed that the government should work toward pollution-free transportation. He announced that all government departments must purchase only electric vehicles (EVs) in the future. Even vehicles hired on lease under the CURE initiative should be electric, the CM stated, underlining the government’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions.
The Chief Minister directed the Transport Department to discontinue manual systems and conduct all activities online. He expressed concern over RTO offices functioning in rented buildings and instructed officials to prepare plans immediately for constructing permanent office buildings. The move is expected to improve service delivery and reduce operational costs for the department.
To address the growing concern over road accidents, the CM instructed officials to increase awareness on road safety by screening short films on road accidents. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to educate citizens about safe driving practices and reduce traffic-related fatalities across the state. The Chief Minister also directed officials to complete the construction of teaching hospitals and other major hospitals quickly.
The Chief Minister announced that land would be allocated near Shamshabad for setting up a modern bus terminal at the location where the high-speed rail corridor is expected to begin. Officials were asked to prepare the necessary plans for this project, which is expected to improve public transport connectivity in the region. The terminal will serve as a key transit point for passengers traveling between different parts of the state.
The meeting was also attended by Ponnam Prabhakar, Transport Commissioner Ilamparthi, and Y. Nagi Reddy, along with other officials from the Roads and Buildings and Transport departments. The comprehensive review covered multiple aspects of infrastructure development and transport modernization across Telangana.
