The Telangana Government has granted administrative approval for the Adilabad Joint User Airfield, a major infrastructure project valued at ₹2,278 crore. Under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, this ambitious initiative aims to transform connectivity and economic prospects across North Telangana. The project has been designed as a joint facility serving both defense and civilian aviation needs, marking a significant step in the region’s development.
A total of 2,009 acres has been earmarked for the airfield development. Of this land, 1,609 acres will be allocated to the Indian Air Force, while 400 acres will be dedicated to civil aviation facilities. The civil aviation infrastructure will include a cargo terminal, maintenance, repair and overhaul facility, and aircraft hangars. This dual-purpose approach is expected to strengthen industrial growth, enhance cargo and logistics connectivity, boost tourism, and support national defense requirements.
The Telangana Government will bear the complete cost of land acquisition and infrastructure relocation associated with the project. This includes the shifting of 765 kV transmission lines, diversion of streams, relocation of Mission Bhagiratha pipelines, and road realignment. These preparatory works are essential to create suitable conditions for the airfield construction and ensure minimal disruption to existing utilities and services in the region.
The land acquisition process and utility shifting activities have been targeted for completion by December 31, 2026. The project is being executed with sustained coordination between the State Government, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Civil Aviation, and Airports Authority of India. Officials expect the airfield to create thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities for youth in the region while attracting new investments to North Telangana.
The Adilabad Joint User Airfield represents a strategic infrastructure investment aimed at improving regional connectivity and economic development. The facility will serve both military operations and commercial aviation, providing enhanced air connectivity to a region that has historically lacked such infrastructure.
