The Telangana government has allocated ₹11,405 crore for the welfare of Backward Classes (BC) in its 2025-26 budget. This announcement was made by Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka during an Assembly session on Wednesday. The decision is based on insights from the recently conducted Comprehensive Social, Economic, Education, Employment, Political & Caste Survey (SEEEPC).

Vikramarka emphasized that this survey provides a clear and scientific understanding of Telangana’s social structure. He noted that there has been a long-standing demand for caste-based data to ensure fair resource distribution and representation. The survey covered 96% of the population, documenting details from 1.12 crore families, making it one of the most extensive socio-economic studies in the state.

The survey collected key information such as caste demographics, land ownership, education levels, employment trends, and access to welfare schemes. Using this data, the government aims to ensure that welfare benefits reach the right people. One major outcome of the survey is its role in determining BC reservations in proportion to their population in the upcoming Panchayat elections, improving their political representation.

Besides elections, the data will help shape welfare programs, improve reservation policies, and support economic development initiatives. The state government has committed to investing in various sectors that benefit BC communities.

For example, the Animal Husbandry Department is funding fisheries development, while the Industries Department is helping handloom workers by distributing sarees on a large scale. Additionally, key agricultural schemes like Rythu Bandhu (Farmers’ Investment Support) and Loan Waivers are providing financial security to BC farmers.

With this data-driven approach, the Telangana government aims to reduce socio-economic inequalities and promote sustainable development for marginalized communities.
