Hyderabad is set for a major road upgrade as the Telangana government plans to build 5,190 km of roads using the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM). This ambitious project will connect villages to mandal centers, mandals to district centers, and districts to the state capital.

Initially, the Roads & Buildings Department will manage 17 packages covering 5,190 km, costing Rs 6,478 crore. Meanwhile, the Panchayat Raj Engineering Department will handle 7,947 km in 17 packages at around Rs 6,000 crore. By December, another 6,810 km will be tendered. The project includes creating four-lane roads to Hyderabad, two-lane roads from mandals to district centers, and upgrading rural roads from mud to bitumen surfaces, said R&B Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy.

During a Road Show at the National Academy of Construction, the minister highlighted the goal to connect every village and district with reliable, all-weather roads. He explained HAM’s benefits, combining Engineering, Procurement, and Construction with Build-Operate-Transfer models. The government will fund 40% of the costs in ten instalments, and contractors will cover the rest, reimbursed based on performance with inflation adjustments.
