In an unprecedented move, Telangana is set to install large-capacity transformers across the state to ensure improved power supply. For the first time, 1000 kVA transformers will replace the existing 500 kVA units in areas where the load exceeds 70%.
As part of this ambitious project, 16 MVA power transformers are planned for high-load substations. This measure is expected to significantly augment the power capacity of the state, which is anticipated to reach a peak demand of between 19,500 and 20,000 MW next year. The city of Greater Hyderabad alone is projected to account for a whopping 5,000 MW of this demand.
The Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Ltd. (@tgspdcl) will oversee the enhancement of transformer capacity at key substations. These include prominent locations like Jubilee Hills, Madhapur, Manikonda, Gachibowli, Medchal, Shivaram Pally, M.D. Pally, Patancheru, RC Puram, Bollaram, Borapatla, Narsapur, and Palamakula.
In addition to the new installations, the power upgrade project also includes the introduction of 3,866 new Distribution Transformers (DTRs) and the upgrade of 431 Power Transformers (PTRs) across South DISCOM. These efforts aim to ensure a steady and reliable power supply to accommodate the increasing power needs of the state.
Chairman and Managing Director of TSSPDCL, Musharraf Faruqui (@musharraf_ias), has taken a keen interest in the project. He is committed to ensuring the successful implementation of the project and meeting the state’s growing power requirements.
The move to upgrade transformers across Telangana is a significant step towards ensuring a more efficient power supply. It also highlights the state’s commitment to meeting the increasing power demands in a sustainable manner.
This is a significant milestone for Telangana’s power sector as it moves towards large-capacity transformers and high-load substations. The success of this project is crucial for the state’s ongoing development and growth.
