The Telangana theatres association has decided to close single screens for ten days starting today. This decision comes as there have been fewer new releases in theatres due to the ongoing elections and the IPL.
The increase in multi-screen theatres in the state has also contributed to the decline in regular audience for single screens. As a result, owners of single screen theatres have chosen to close their doors to minimize losses.
The owners’ association mentioned that if producers are willing to cover the maintenance costs, the single screen theatres may be reopened. For now, the closure will last for ten days to address the current lack of entertainment options for moviegoers.
