Hyderabad: The Telangana Congress is launching a campaign to push for 42% reservation for Backward Classes (BC) at the national level. On Monday, party leaders will travel to Delhi on a special train from Cherlapally station. PCC president B Mahesh Kumar Goud and AICC state incharge Meenakshi Natarajan will join 25 party representatives from each Assembly constituency on this journey.
The Congress leaders, led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, will be in Delhi from August 5 to 7. They plan to apply pressure both inside and outside Parliament. On August 5, party MPs will propose an adjournment motion, while demonstrations are expected at Parliament. On August 6, state leaders, including the Chief Minister, will hold a protest near Jantar Mantar.
A delegation, headed by the Chief Minister, will meet President Droupadi on August 7. They aim to persuade her to approve two Bills that would grant 42% reservation to BCs in education, jobs, and local governance.
AICC state incharge Meenakshi Natarajan called for unity among party members and the public in support of this reservation demand on August 2. During the ‘Janahita Padayatra’ on Saturday, she emphasized the Telangana Congress’s dedication to social justice. Natarajan outlined the party’s strategic approach in Delhi for securing the reservation. She noted that the Congress government in Telangana has fulfilled 80% of its promises within 18 months, offering a ‘Telangana model’ that contrasts with other divisive models in the country.
