Hyderabad: A group of 100 law students from MIT World Peace University (MIT-WPU), Pune, visited the Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) on Tuesday. They had an interactive session with the TGCHE Chairman, Professor V Balakista Reddy.
Several distinguished guests also attended the event. These included Umapathi, IPS (Retd), a Distinguished Fellow at CHSS; Dr Ramesh K, Founder and Director of CHSS; and S Sarangapani, Assistant Commissioner of Police. Faculty members from the MIT-WPU School of Law were also present, including Professor Ayush Mishra, Professor Vikas, Professor Anamika, and Professor Vaishnavi.
During the session, Professor Reddy spoke about how the legal profession is changing in the 21st century. He explained that law is no longer limited to traditional areas. New fields like deep seabed mining, outer space law, and international legal systems are becoming more important. These changes are driven by the shift of industries from government to private hands, creating a need for lawyers with global knowledge and skills.
He also talked about how globalisation, liberalisation, and privatisation are transforming the legal world. As countries become more connected, Indian lawyers must compete on an international level. This means that legal education in India must change to better prepare students for modern challenges.
Professor Reddy emphasized that today’s legal students have many new opportunities, thanks to changes in global governance. He encouraged the students to explore these emerging fields and to ask questions about different career paths, areas of specialisation, and the future of the legal profession.
He ended by advising students to keep learning and stay adaptable. He urged them to aim to be not just good lawyers, but also contributors to society. The session was a valuable exchange of ideas, and he reminded the students of the importance of being both nationally grounded and globally aware.
