Hyderabad – The Telangana Council for Higher Education (TGCHE) is making big changes to improve college education across the state. According to TGCHE Chairman Prof. Balakista Reddy, the council has already started updating undergraduate (UG) courses over the past two months.
This move supports the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and follows guidance from the University Grants Commission (UGC). The updates are designed to prepare students for the modern world by focusing on digital learning, practical skills, and overall development.
Prof. Reddy said the new curriculum will match the UGC’s vision for modern education. It will include multidisciplinary learning, skill-based training, and hands-on experience. He explained that the changes aim to reduce unnecessary content and instead focus on teaching students to think critically, be creative, and gain skills that employers want.
The updated courses will also follow important UGC guidelines such as the National Credit Framework (NCrF). They will offer apprenticeship-based degrees, include short skill-building programs, and allow students to enter or exit courses at different points. Digital teaching methods will also be part of the changes.
TGCHE is working closely with Vice-Chancellors, colleges, industry experts, and students to make sure the new courses meet both academic standards and real-world needs. These discussions are helping shape a better future for higher education in Telangana.
This effort follows a recent UGC request asking all universities in India to update their academic programs to align with the NEP 2020. The goal is to create a more flexible, practical, and globally competitive education system for students.
