South Central Railway (SCR) achieved a new milestone in April 2025, setting a record for the highest freight loading ever recorded in April. The zone moved 12.363 million tons of goods, marking a solid 6% increase from April last year.
This growth came mainly from sharp rises in cement and iron ore transportation. Cement loading reached 3.243 million tons, up by 18% compared to 2.740 million tons in April 2024. Similarly, iron ore movement climbed to 0.765 million tons, a jump of 39% from the previous 0.550 million tons.
Coal remained the top cargo, with 6.100 million tons transported. While slightly lower than last year’s 6.150 million tons, coal still played a major role in overall freight performance.
Despite ongoing infrastructure upgrades and the operation of special passenger trains, SCR managed to strike a strong balance between passenger and freight services.
Arun Kumar Jain, the General Manager of South Central Railway, praised the careful coordination behind this success. He credited thorough planning and teamwork for the achievement and encouraged continued focus to break more records by the end of the financial year.
