Hyderabad:
The Telangana Education Commission (TGEC) recently held a workshop to discuss ways to improve teacher education.
The workshop was led by TGEC Chairman Murali Akunuri and Sandhya Rani, who is the Convener of the Teacher Education Working Group. Experts from universities and development organisations participated and shared useful ideas.
Ramesh Deictoin from the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) talked about the current policies and training programs for teachers in Telangana.
Professor Ritesh Khunyakari from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) shared examples from other parts of India and the world that could help improve teacher development in the state.
Professor Nirmat Kaur from Azim Premji University suggested new policies and practical ideas to strengthen teacher education in Telangana.
Professor Kamala from the College of Teacher Education at Andhra Mahila Sabha spoke about the training situation for early childhood education teachers, both before and after they start teaching.
Finally, Madhukar Reddy Banuri, CEO of Leadership for Equity, presented models and strategies from other states that Telangana could also adopt.
