Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has raised bus pass prices by 20%. These new rates started on Monday.
Now, an ordinary bus pass costs Rs 1,400, up from Rs 1,150. The Metro Express pass increased to Rs 1,600 from Rs 1,300, and the Metro Deluxe pass rose to Rs 1,800 from Rs 1,450.
For three years, student bus pass fees stayed the same. But due to higher costs, TGSRTC decided to increase prices for both student and monthly passes, starting June 9, 2025.
A senior TGSRTC official explained that the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) updates toll taxes yearly. When this happens, TGSRTC can increase user fees under GO 24. They adjusted the toll plaza charges from June 9. However, this doesn’t affect routes in Hyderabad city as there are no toll plazas there.
An extra Rs 10 will be charged per toll plaza if a passenger uses one. There’s no fee if they don’t go through a toll plaza. Regular commuters are worried about the steep rise in bus pass prices. Many students and workers rely on these buses daily and are asking the state government to rethink the fare hike.
Passengers are urging the government to reconsider these increases to prevent difficulties for daily travelers.
