Hyderabad: Thousands of people joined a protest march on Sunday to oppose the new Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development Act-2025 (Umeed Act-2025). Protesters said the law is unfair and unconstitutional, especially toward the Muslim community.
The march began at Nizam College grounds and ended at the Ambedkar statue at Tank Bund. People from different political parties and parts of society took part in the protest.
The event was organized by the Minority Wing of the Congress party. Many women, social activists, and student leaders joined in large numbers to express their concerns.
Police were present along the entire route to ensure safety and maintain order. However, the large crowd caused traffic jams in several busy areas of the city.
Protesters waved the national flag and shouted slogans against the BJP-led central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They accused the government of targeting Muslims and their Waqf properties through the new law.
