Hyderabad: The President of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), Mahesh Kumar Goud, has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of threatening the unity of the country with its proposed plan for parliamentary delimitation. He urged all regional political parties in South India to come together and oppose what he described as a plan to harm the interests of Southern states.
Speaking at a seminar titled “Parliamentary Delimitation – The Future of South India” in Hyderabad, Goud said the central government was trying to target South Indian states in the name of delimitation. He called on the Centre to discuss any such changes with all state governments and political parties. He also asked the government to continue using the 1971 census for forming parliamentary constituencies for the next 25 years.
Goud went on to accuse Prime Minister Narendra Modi of trying to divide people based on caste and religion for political gain. He claimed that the BJP-led central government is weakening important constitutional institutions.
Later, during a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan, Mahesh Kumar Goud challenged Union Ministers G Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar to an open debate about what they have done for the state of Telangana.
