Hyderabad: Telangana’s Director General of Police (DGP), Dr. Jitender, has called for better quality investigations to improve conviction rates in criminal cases. He urged police officers to make full use of the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) while handling investigations.
At a half-yearly crime review meeting held on Monday at the DGP office, Dr. Jitender emphasized the importance of being sensitive to the needs of crime victims. He encouraged officers to ensure that justice is delivered fairly and efficiently.
The meeting was attended by top police officials, including DG Intelligence B. Shivadhar Reddy, DG CID Shikha Goel, Additional Director Generals (ADGs), Inspectors General (IGs), Police Commissioners, Superintendents of Police, and other senior officers.
Dr. Jitender told the officers that gaining public trust should be a key goal for the police. He stressed the importance of visible policing—being present and active in communities—as a way to improve safety and build good relationships with the public. He also asked women police officers to raise awareness about women’s empowerment and self-development.
During the meeting, DG CID Shikha Goel shared that crime in the second half of 2024 dropped by 4.9% compared to the first half of the year. She noted that all major crimes, except burglaries, have decreased. The crime detection rate has improved significantly, going up from 57% in 2023 to 76% in 2024. Additionally, the number of unresolved investigation (UI) cases closed has increased by over 20%.
The meeting was also attended by senior officers such as ADGP (Law and Order) Mahesh M. Bhagwat, ADG (Technical Services) V.V. Srinivasa Rao, ADG (Personnel) Anil Kumar, ADG (TGSP) Sanjay Kumar Jain, ADG (Organization) Swati Lakra, and Commissioners of Police Sudheer Babu (Rachakonda) and Avinash Mohanty (Cyberabad), among others.
