Hyderabad: On Sunday, Nehru Zoological Park began a large tree-planting event under the Vana Mahotsavam initiative. Dr. C Suvarna, PCCF (HoFF), and Elusing Meru, PCCF (Wildlife) from Telangana, joined other forest officials and the Director of Zoo Parks, Telangana, in planting saplings of Ficus and other tree varieties near the reptile house.
During the event, Dr. Suvarna introduced a pair of Serval Cats to the small cats enclosure for public viewing. These two-year-old exotic cats originate from Africa and can live up to 16 years in zoos.
Later, the PCCF opened the newly renovated Fossil Park Garden, which features plant species arranged in the shape of the Telangana map.
Dr. Suvarna emphasized, “To boost the state’s greenery, everyone should plant a tree in their mother’s name – Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam.”
Participants in the event included Dr. Sunil S Hiremath, Director of Zoo Parks, Telangana, and Field Director of Amrabad Tiger Reserve, along with M J Akbar, former Director of NZP, Dr. MA Hakeem, Deputy Director (Vet), M Barnoba, Deputy Curator, Dr. P Srinivas, Assistant Director (Vet), and A Nagamani, ACF, Admin, among others.
