A man crashed a rented U-Haul truck into a security barrier outside the White House in Washington, D.C. on May 24. The driver, Sai Varshith Kandula, was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including threatening to kill the president, reckless driving and trespassing. No one was hurt in the incident.

Kandula rented the truck in Virginia and drove it to the north side of Lafayette Square, where he crashed into the security barrier. After exiting the truck with a Nazi flag, Kandula shouted as police approached him. He later told investigators he wanted to take over the government and kill President Joe Biden.

The Secret Service is investigating whether Kandula intentionally targeted the security barrier. Lafayette Square, which provides an excellent view of the White House, has long been a popular spot for demonstrations. It was closed for almost a year after nationwide protests over police brutality in 2020.

President Biden was briefed on the incident and is relieved that no one was injured. The U.S. Park Police said Kandula was arrested on multiple charges. U-Haul confirmed that Kandula rented the truck and had a valid contract in his own name.
