Hyderabad: The Telangana State Medical Council (TSMC) has been praised for its efforts in improving the medical community. Health Secretary Dr. Christina Z Chongthu, during the inauguration of the new TSMC building at the Director of Health premises in Koti, said that the council has become an inspiration for doctors across the country.
The new building is equipped with advanced facilities aimed at boosting the self-esteem of doctors. Dr. Chongthu also appreciated the efforts of TSMC chairman Dr. Mahesh Kumar, particularly for promoting the importance of qualified doctors.
Dr. Mahesh Kumar expressed his gratitude towards Health Minister C Damodar Rajanarsimha and Dr. Christina Chongthu for their support in issuing the necessary approvals for establishing the new TSMC body and for overseeing the construction and improvements of the TSMC building. He highlighted that the newly elected council members, who are young and talented doctors, are determined to eliminate fake medical practices.
Council Vice Chairman Dr. G Srinivas spoke about the major changes brought by doctors in Telangana. He listed achievements such as conducting training sessions on medical ethics for the first time in the State, under the guidance of the National Medical Commission. He also mentioned the introduction of online license renewal for doctors, which saved time by eliminating long queues. Additionally, medical ethics awareness classes were held for MBBS and PG students, and registration and renewal fees were reduced by 50%. Doctors over 65 years old now receive free license renewals. The council also recommended the formation of a national task force to prevent attacks on doctors.
Dr. Kiran Kumar added that under the NMC Act, the council has acted against 300 fake doctors across the State. He mentioned that ethics awareness classes will continue regularly for practicing doctors.
