Khammam, Telangana – Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao has called for swift action on major development projects across Khammam city. During a review meeting held on Saturday, he pressed officials to speed up work and maintain high standards in every project.
A top priority is the construction of a retaining wall along the Munneru River. Tummala emphasized that this vital project must be completed within a year. Designed to prevent future flooding, the wall will follow a revised plan approved by an expert committee.
The Minister explained that despite the State's financial challenges, funds were secured after discussions with the Chief Minister. He stressed that with the money now available, local authorities must act fast to avoid past flood disasters.
The plan includes building over 8.5 kilometers of retaining wall on both sides of the river. This structure is designed to withstand a 3.5 lakh cusecs flood surge. Tummala urged for quick land acquisition and the use of extra manpower to finish the task on time.
District Collector Muzammil Khan shared updates on acquiring land from farmers. He said the administration is negotiating with landowners, offering compensation through developed lands in Nagarjuna Sagar.
Tummala also addressed other infrastructure issues. He instructed officials to rebuild the UT road in Nagarjuna Sagar by the end of May and fix damages near the canal shutters. He proposed building a new head regulator at the Manchukonda lift and completing the 8.5 km underground drainage system.
For the city’s beautification and better urban facilities, the Minister urged faster progress at VeluguMatla Urban Park. He recommended planting trees along R&B and Panchayat roads, widening Killa Road, and finishing the Killa ropeway project without delay.
To improve access for travelers, he suggested better connectivity to the ropeway station. He also called for building a bridge near Dhamsalapuram across the railway line to improve transportation in that area.
These efforts reflect the State’s push to transform Khammam into a safer, cleaner, and better-connected city.
