Khammam: Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao has urged officials to speed up the underground drainage (UGD) work in Khammam city. He stressed that the sewage pipeline construction must finish before the start of the monsoon season.
On Monday, the Minister visited the bypass road area to inspect the ongoing drainage work. He was joined by Khammam Municipal Corporation Commissioner Abhishek Agastya.
The drainage system is being built under the Amrut 2.0 scheme with a total budget of ₹189.5 crore. As part of the project, a 9.6-kilometer-long sewage pipeline will be laid, stretching from Khanapuram Ura Cheruvu to Thamsalapuram Cheruvu. Smaller pipelines from nearby areas will connect to this main line and carry waste to the treatment plant.
Two major sewage treatment plants (STPs) are also in the works. One in Thamsalapuram will handle 44 million liters of waste per day, while another in Puttakota will treat 9.5 million liters daily.
Minister Rao emphasized the importance of completing both the sewage and rainwater drainage systems before heavy rains begin. He ordered officials to increase the pace of work by deploying more personnel and JCB excavators.
He also asked for a detailed update on the progress of the UGD work along Wyra Road. Officials must submit a report estimating how many days are needed to finish that section.
Public Health SE Ranjith, local leaders, officials, and other representatives were present during the site inspection.
