Two Journalists Arrested for Defaming Telangana CM

Hyderabad Cyber Crime police have arrested two women journalists for spreading defamatory content and conspiring against Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.

The arrested individuals are Pogadadanda Revathi, 44, the Managing Director of Purple Crow Media Inc, and Bandi Sandhya, also known as Thanvi Yadav, 25, a reporter. Revathi had previously been involved in two other cases filed at the Banjara Hills and LB Nagar police stations. Authorities seized laptops, CPUs, hard disks, microphone logos, and other materials from them.

The police began their investigation after receiving a complaint from the State Secretary of the Congress Social Media Cell in Hyderabad. They found an abusive video circulating on the X profile @NippuKodi. The video featured a Pulse TV journalist interviewing an unidentified person in a provocative manner. During the interview, the individual made derogatory and abusive remarks against CM Revanth Reddy, suggesting an intentional attempt to spread false propaganda.

The X profile @NippuKodi actively shared the video, making it go viral. Police officials stated that such posts are highly provocative and could create divisions in society, potentially leading to disturbances in Hyderabad and across Telangana.

In response, the complainant urged authorities to take legal action against those responsible. The Hyderabad Cyber Crime police have warned citizens to be cautious when sharing content on social media. Spreading defamatory, abusive, or provocative material, especially against public figures and government officials, is a punishable offense under Indian law.

Uploading or sharing offensive, abusive, or false information online is a violation of the Information Technology (IT) Act. Officials advise victims of social media trolling to seek help by contacting their local police, cyber crime cell, dialing 1930, or visiting cybercrime.gov.in.
