Hyderabad: Thousands of voters filling the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Enumeration Form in Telangana are confused about what to enter in the “State” field under the 2002 Electoral Roll Details section. Several social media posts and WhatsApp messages claim that voters should write Andhra Pradesh since Telangana was part of the undivided state in 2002.
However, this is incorrect.
The correct entry in the State field is Telangana.
Although the section refers to the 2002 Electoral Roll, the information is used to locate your record in the Telangana electoral database. This is also reflected in the official online SIR portal, where voters must select Telangana while searching for their old electoral roll details.
Why Should You Enter Telangana?
After the State field, the form asks for the following details:
- Assembly Constituency (AC Name)
- AC Number
- Part Number
- Serial Number
These details are verified against the Telangana Electoral Roll. If you enter Andhra Pradesh, the system or officials may attempt to match your Assembly Constituency, Part Number and Serial Number with the Andhra Pradesh electoral database, where the same details could belong to an entirely different voter or may not match at all.
To avoid verification issues, voters in Telangana should enter Telangana in the State field.
Understanding the Three Sections of the SIR Form
The SIR Enumeration Form consists of three sections. Depending on whether your name existed in the 2002 Electoral Roll, you need to fill either the left section or the right section. The bottom section is mandatory for everyone.
1. Left Section – Fill This If Your Name Exists in the 2002 Electoral Roll
If your own name was included in the 2002 Electoral Roll, fill the left section of the form.
You need to provide:
- Elector Name
- EPIC Number (If Available) – This can be left blank if you do not know it.
- Relative’s Name
- Relationship
- District
- State – Enter Telangana
- Assembly Constituency (AC Name)
- AC Number
- Part Number
- Serial Number
If your name exists in the 2002 Electoral Roll, there is no need to fill the right section.
2. Right Section – Fill This If Your Name Was Not in the 2002 Electoral Roll
If your name was not included in the 2002 Electoral Roll, but your father, mother, grandfather, grandmother or another eligible relative was listed, then fill the right section using your relative’s electoral details.
In this section, enter the following:
- Relative’s Name
- EPIC Number (If Available)
- Relationship
- District
- State – Enter Telangana
- Assembly Constituency
- AC Number
- Part Number
- Serial Number
This section is intended to establish your eligibility through a family member whose name appeared in the earlier electoral roll.
3. Bottom Section – Mandatory for Every Applicant
Every applicant must complete the bottom section of the form, irrespective of whether they filled the left or right section.
This section includes:
- Date of Birth
- Aadhaar Number (Optional)

- Father’s/Guardian’s EPIC Number (If Available)
- Mother’s Name
