Hyderabad – On Sunday, Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao joined a large gathering to celebrate the birth anniversary of Tyagaraja Swamy, one of the greatest composers in Carnatic music. The event took place at the LB Indoor Stadium, where top artists performed in tribute to the music legend.
Minister Jupally spoke passionately about Tyagaraja’s enduring influence on classical music. He called him a symbol of pride for the Telugu community and praised the spiritual and artistic depth of his compositions, especially the famous Pancharatnas.
The minister shared plans to expand the reach of Tyagaraja’s music. He announced that the Telangana Sangeet Natak Academy will launch special programs to introduce Tyagaraja Swamy’s hymns in rural areas. The goal is to keep the rich tradition alive and accessible to future generations.
He also addressed growing concerns about youth mental health. According to him, today’s fast-paced lifestyle and constant use of phones and social media are causing more stress among young people. He urged them to take breaks from screens and engage in healthy activities like music, dance, and sports. These habits, he said, can help reduce stress and improve overall well-being.
The event featured powerful performances of Thyagaraja’s kirtans by well-known musicians, captivating the audience throughout.
Several prominent figures attended the celebration, including Kodada MLA N Uttam Padmavati, Telangana Sangeet Natak Academy Chairperson Alekhya Punjala, BC Finance Corporation Chairman Nuthi Srikanth Goud, and Padma Shri awardees Shobha Raju and Yella Venkateswara Rao. Ayyagari Shyamsunder, a recipient of the Central Sangeet Natak Academy Award, was also present.
The celebration was not just about music—it was a reminder of cultural roots, emotional wellness, and the timeless power of art.
