Hyderabad: The University of Hyderabad (UoH) has denied claims made by the Telangana Industrial and Investment Corporation (TGIIC) regarding the ownership and boundary marking of 400 acres of land within the university premises.
Earlier, the State government released a statement through the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), saying that a land survey had been conducted by revenue officials along with university representatives and that the land boundaries were finalized.
However, UoH Registrar Dr. Devesh Nigam refuted this claim. He clarified that only a basic inspection of the land’s features had taken place and that the university had not agreed to any land demarcation.
Dr. Nigam stated, “No boundary has been marked, and the university has not been officially informed.” He added that the University, currently celebrating its 50th year, has repeatedly requested the State government for ownership rights over its land. The university also plans to send concerns raised by various stakeholders to the government, urging it to protect the local environment and biodiversity.
He also pointed out that any land transfer involving the university must be approved by its Executive Council, as outlined in university rules. This council includes six members nominated by the President of India, who serves as the Visitor of the University.
Dr. Nigam urged the public and media to avoid spreading unverified information. “Sharing incorrect details without confirming with the university has become a frequent problem,” he said.
