A man in North Carolina shot a six-year-old girl and her parents after their basketball rolled into his yard. Two other people were also injured. The suspect, Robert Louis Singletary, is still at large and is facing charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. Singletary is classified as a felon because he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend with a sledgehammer in December.
The shooting happened after a basketball rolled into Singletary’s yard, and he retrieved a gun from his home and began firing at neighbors. The six-year-old girl and her father were seriously injured, while an adult female was grazed by a bullet and another adult male was shot. The shooting has sparked a large-scale search for Singletary, with the United States Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force helping in the search.
This shooting is the latest in a string of incidents where innocent people have been shot due to mistaken identity or misunderstandings. Last week, a 16-year-old was shot when he rang the doorbell at the wrong address, while a 20-year-old was shot and killed after driving down the wrong driveway. Another 18-year-old was shot for trying to enter the wrong vehicle in a parking lot near Austin.
