Huzurnagar: Minister Nalamada Uttam Kumar Reddy has pledged that the state government will strongly resist any attempts to increase the Almatti Dam’s height. The fight for Telangana’s rights will continue until fairness is achieved.
On Sunday, the minister visited the Jawahar Janpahad Lift Irrigation Project site in Janpahad village, located in Palakeedu mandal, Suryapet district.
He criticized former administrations for their poor management of Krishna River water distribution. Out of 811 TMCs, Andhra Pradesh received 512 TMCs, while Telangana only got 299 TMCs through agreements.
Upon taking office, the government pushed for water allocations based on basin area, cultivation needs, and population. Telangana demands 70% of the Krishna waters, and efforts are ongoing to secure this. The state has already presented its case to the Tribunal and will revisit the issue in Delhi on Monday night to seek justice.
Uttam reaffirmed the state’s dedication to building the Pranahita–Chevella project at Tummadihatti and announced imminent construction plans. He criticized the Kaleshwaram project, alleging that the three barrages, built for Rs 1 lakh crore, failed within three years. According to the NDSA report, restoration work will be undertaken. He urged the contractor to speed up the Jawahar Janpahad project, costing Rs 302 crore, to supply irrigation water to 10,000 acres and fill the Janpahad tank.
He instructed the RDO to ensure fair compensation for land acquisition and set a deadline for project completion by December’s end. The minister attended multiple events during his quick visit to the Huzurnagar constituency.
