Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Water Board has started a new campaign to stop people from using illegal water motors in the city. This campaign is called the “motor-free tap water drive” and began on Tuesday.
Ashok Reddy, the Managing Director of the Water Board, visited Kakatiya Hills in Madhapur along with vigilance and local officials. They checked homes during water supply times and spoke to some residents about the issue.
On the first day of the drive, officials seized 64 illegal motors across all city divisions. They also fined 84 people for using these motors. The highest number of motors—25—were taken from one area called the O&M division.
Ashok Reddy explained that the city’s water is purified and brought from faraway places. He urged people to use this water only for drinking purposes and not waste it on gardening or construction. He warned that groundwater levels are very low and water shortages may happen soon. In some areas, the demand for water tankers is already rising.
He also said that when people use motors on their taps, it causes low water pressure for others in the area. This makes the problem worse and increases the need for water tankers. The Water Board will continue this drive in all areas under its control.
If anyone is caught using illegal motors, they will be fined, and their motors will be taken away. People can report such violations by calling the Water Board’s customer care number: 155313.
