Hyderabad is facing serious water supply issues this summer, especially in the northern parts of the city. The Hyderabad Water Board’s campaign to stop the use of illegal water motors has made little progress in many areas.
Several neighborhoods, including Neredmet, RK Puram, Tarnaka, Malkajgiri, and Jeedimetla Village, still haven’t seen any real action. Residents say water barely reaches their homes, even on scheduled supply days.
The main problem is the illegal use of 1 HP motors. These devices pull water directly from the main supply lines, reducing water pressure across the system. As a result, people living in high-rise buildings and hilly areas struggle the most, with water unable to reach upper floors.
Syed Khaled Shah Chishty Hussaini, Secretary of the United Federation of Residents Welfare Association, said the situation is unfair. “People who follow the rules are left without water because others use illegal motors,” he explained. “The pressure drops sharply, and it’s making life harder, especially in this heat.”
N Sravani, a resident of Jeedimetla, shared her frustration. “This is the first time we’re facing such low water pressure. We hoped the motor-free drive would help, but things have gotten worse instead,” she said.
Srinivas from Malkajgiri pointed out a major flaw in the campaign. “The Water Board should have launched the drive equally across the city. It’s only visible in the Old City and central areas. The northern parts don’t get the same attention,” he said. “We need stronger water pressure to match the growing demand.”
As temperatures rise and groundwater levels fall, residents urge the authorities to act quickly. Without strict inspections and better water management, the crisis may only deepen in the coming weeks.
