Hyderabad: Mallu Lakshmi, the State General Secretary of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), raised concerns about the increasing rape cases against girls in India. She criticized both the central and state governments for not taking enough action.
At a Students’ Federation of India (SFI) conference, she pointed out the contradiction between Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Save the daughter” campaign and the ongoing violent crimes against women. Lakshmi urged the government to make sanitary napkins available for free in all Gurukul schools as they were before.
Chaired by SFI State Assistant Secretary M Mamata at the Hyderabad City CITU office, the meeting included calls to remove GST on sanitary napkins. Lakshmi highlighted the inadequate facilities in girls’ hostels, Gurukuls, and KGBVs, emphasizing the need for more rooms and better washrooms.
Lakshmi also addressed the issue of anaemia among female students due to poor nutrition, advocating for nutritious meals and increased mess charges to support this.
She encouraged students to draw inspiration from historical figures and stand against the harmful effects of “obscene content, double meaning videos, drugs, ganja, alcohol, and cigarettes” on social media.
Lakshmi urged the government to invest more in women’s education and improve girls’ hostels, universities, and other educational institutions. State convenor M Pooja presented a plan to address female students’ issues.
SFI state president S Rajinikanth and secretary T Nagaraj also spoke at the event. The conference was attended by state assistant secretary Deepika and state committee members Ramya, Suma, and Karthik.
