Adilabad is facing a new challenge as the Education Department targets teachers who frequently miss school. To address irregular attendance in government schools, the department has rolled out a Facial Recognition Attendance (FRS) system to ensure teachers are present and on time.
Technical issues have arisen, impacting the app’s deployment. Teachers had one week to register, but server problems at some schools caused delays.
Additionally, some teachers were on leave, and 141 teachers received transfer orders, complicating registration as they joined new schools.
Among the 691 schools in the district, 3,283 teachers were expected to log their attendance on the first day (Friday), but only 2,028 successfully did so. On the second day (Saturday), around 60% used the facial recognition system, as reported by the Education Department.
In the past, teachers managed their own schedules. Now, following directives from the State Education Department, Adilabad has adopted the facial attendance system to enforce punctuality. An app was introduced for both office staff and teachers to record attendance through facial recognition. Teachers must download the TG SRC app and confirm their presence upon arrival at school.
The app is mandatory for both teaching and non-teaching staff in government schools. Attendance is recorded at 9:00 am and 4:15 pm daily. Teachers must update the app if they are on leave. If absent without notice, the app marks them absent automatically.
This system aims to address issues where some teachers, especially in remote areas, have been absent or occupied with other activities during school hours. The online system seeks to ensure accountability and eliminate such practices.
Similar to the FRS used for students, the teacher attendance app connects to the District Education Office and Directorate for real-time monitoring. District Education Officers (DEOs) and Collectors can now track attendance directly.
